TREK ITINERARY

  • Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp

    • Begin the trek at Londorossi Gate, entering the lush rainforest.
    • Encounter diverse wildlife, including colobus monkeys and various bird species.
    • Arrive at Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa) at 2,780 meters (9,121 feet) for your first night on the mountain.
  • Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp

    • Continue the ascent through the forest, transitioning to heath and moorland zones.
    • Enjoy stunning views as you cross the Shira Plateau.
    • Camp at Shira 1 Camp at 3,505 meters (11,499 feet), taking in the expansive vistas.
  • Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

    • Trek across the Shira Plateau, a high-altitude desert with spectacular views.
    • Pass by dramatic geological formations and unique vegetation.
    • Reach Shira 2 Camp at 3,850 meters (12,631 feet) and enjoy the panoramic scenery.
  • Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

    • Descend to Barranco Camp at 3,960 meters (13,000 feet), navigating the scenic Barranco Valley.

  • Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

    • Settle in at Barafu Camp at 4,600 meters (15,091 feet) and prepare for the summit attempt.
  • Day 7: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

    • Begin the summit ascent around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet) by sunrise.
    • Experience the exhilaration of standing on the highest point in Africa.
    • Descend to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) for a well-deserved rest after the summit achievement.
  • Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

    • Make the final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate.
    • Celebrate your successful climb and receive your summit certificates.
    • Transfer back to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi, concluding your incredible journey.

Included in the 6-Day Climb of Mount Kilimanjaro via Machame Route:
