TREKKING ITINERARY

  • Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp

    • Start the trek at Umbwe Gate (1,640 meters / 5,380 feet) after registration and briefing.
    • Ascend steeply through the dense rainforest, rich with flora and fauna.
    • Reach Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850 meters / 9,350 feet) for your first night on the mountain.
  • Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp

    • Continue the steep ascent through the forest until reaching the moorland zone.
    • Enjoy stunning views of the Western Breach and the towering Barranco Wall.
    • Arrive at Barranco Camp (3,900 meters / 12,800 feet) and settle in for the night.
  • Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

    • Tackle the challenging Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble that offers spectacular views.
    • Traverse through the Karanga Valley, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and unique vegetation.
    • Reach Karanga Camp (3,995 meters / 13,106 feet) and rest for the day.
  • Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

    • Ascend gradually towards Barafu Camp, the base camp for the final summit push.
    • Traverse through the alpine desert, with breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.
    • Arrive at Barafu Camp (4,673 meters / 15,331 feet) and prepare for the summit attempt.
  • Day 5: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

    • Begin the summit ascent around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet) by sunrise.
    • Experience the exhilaration of standing on the Roof of Africa and witnessing the breathtaking sunrise.
    • Descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,068 meters / 10,065 feet) for the night.
  • Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

    • Make the final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate.
    • Celebrate your successful climb and receive your summit certificates.
    • Transfer back to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi, concluding your incredible journey.

Included in the 6-Day Climb of Mount Kilimanjaro via Machame Route:
